PRACTICE...

The work of Danish artist Jesper Kristiansen often circles about the relationship between systems and the individual; about the general inability to fit in; about functioning without being able to function.

Jesper Kristiansen is concerned with opposites and contrasts; with the abnormal and sometimes grotesque in contrast to normalcy. With function and non-function, with being human in a modern, demanding society which values high performance.

With his use of different media like drawing, painting, video, objects, performance, installation and text, he strives for a kind of poetics, which at first glance seems fragile and almost transparent, but which encompasses a quiet, humorous brutality and directness at closer inspection.

Jesper Kristiansen lives and works in Sønderborg, Denmark.
